Washington is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. We severely underestimated how long it would take to trek around this brilliant city. We walked and walked and walked. Jet lagged, generally exhausted and already worn out by the New York streets, I’m surprised we managed to stay upright! There was so much to do and so little time. We managed to do pretty much all we wanted to and it is so worth a visit if you’re nearby.
Standing where Martin Luther King Jr did his infamous speech and walking round the Capitol was really something. The White House is a lot smaller than I thought it would be.
We went to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and saw the Wright brothers’ plane which was really cool. The heat of the Botanic Gardens almost wiped me out but they are well worth a visit and bonus, they’re free.
At the end of the day we collapsed in a heap at a Mexican restaurant which was apparently George Bush’s favourite restaurant whilst he was there. I can totally see why, hands down the best Mexican food I have ever eaten, good taste George.
